etsy love.

If you aren't familiar with the world of Etsy by now, I recommend you get acquainted.  I have more and more people suggesting I set up my own site for jewelry and things.  I admire the ladies and gentlemen who keep up with the demand, but I'm afraid I'll slack off.  I guess I could at least give it a shot?  Not now, but soon.

Here are some of my latest Etsy favorites.  Some are jewelry ideas I plan on recreating & others are items I would like to own (but I'm resisting the purchases.)

I'm not actually sure what I would use this backpack for, considering I don't tote books around all day... but it's adorable.

I was walking through Lowe's the other day and actually picked up a few items (from plumbing and electrical) that I could use for this necklace.  Multi-purpose, for sure.  by Stavri
I'm currently on the last hours of my four-day weekend.  The twelve-hour shifts at my adult job allow for three or four days off each week.  If you are ever offered this type of schedule, TAKE IT.  Trust me.  Yes, the shifts are long but the off days are well worth the adjustment period.  (Plus, those overtime hours on each paycheck are a nice addition.)

Aside from viewing hundreds of Etsy pages, I have done nothing worth writing about this week.  So... maybe next time.  Back to lounging.

oh, you fancy, huh?

Essie - Let It Shine, Mochacino, Tart Deco
Please forgive the awful photos. Taking photos of your fingers without making them look like sausages is a difficult thing. I don't envy newly-engaged women. I'm going to have to put my fingers on a diet before I can ever say yes to a proposal. Same goes for the rest of my body if I ever want to get proposed to.

Anyway - new nails. I'm obsessed with the Essie nail polish collection. I love that they are affordable and easy to find. New colors show up every time I go to Walgreen's and I just can't help myself. I picked up some circle labels while at the grocery store the other day thinking they'd be perfect for this manicure I've been wanting to try.

I painted my nails using Mochacino last night and waited until today to ensure that they were dry enough that they wouldn't peel off if I applied the sticker. I applied the sticker to the lower half of my nail and painted a few coats of Tart Deco over the top half. I then removed the sticker and applied a couple of coats of Let It Shine to even out the two sections. These colors would also look super cute with Essie's Matte About You top coat.

Be sure to wait until the top half is dry before removing the sticker, because the polish will peel off. Due to my impatience, a few of my nails are ruined, and, due to my general laziness, will likely stay that way until the next time I decide to paint my nails.

The possibilities are endless, really. Have fun with it!

cake in a cup.

That's right. Cake. In a cup. While out to supper the other night with my fam, my Aunt Penny informed the group of an amazing trick for making individual sized cakes in a matter of seconds. Best part: they are only 50 calories a piece. So, if you're on a 1,200 calorie/day diet, that means you can have 24 cakes EVERY DAY.

Thanks to Google, I managed to find the recipe to share with you all.

I went out to the store and bought cake mix and got right to it. I used confetti cake because it makes me feel like it's my birthday, but I think the final product would be delicious regardless of what kind of cake mix you use. I ended up using a Mason jar instead of a Ziploc bag for cuter storage purposes. (Always thinking.) I used a medium-sized mug that Kylie picked up from some thrift store. I've seen it go through the dishwasher plenty of times, so hopefully any kind of diseases from the previous owner are long gone. I microwaved the mix for one minute and it turned out perfectly!

I couldn't believe how moist (sorry for using that word, Brie) and delicious it was. I had some leftover frosting from making cupcakes for our housewarming party, so I threw some of that on there and it was quite the treat.

This would be a super quick and easy dessert to make for a get together of any sort.

Thanks, Aunt Penny!

Douglas really wanted to help make (ruin) these, so I had to distract her with an empty box. If only everyone were as easily entertained as Douglas and Kylie.

sometimes I change out of sweatpants

Once in a while, I feel like leaving the house and wearing items of clothing other than sweatpants and old t-shirts.  This happens on work days (of course/unfortunately) and occasional days off.  Today was one of those rare times.  I went to meet someone in Council Bluffs to engage in a jewelry selling deal in the Target parking lot.  It actually felt a lot like an illegal drug deal (or what I would assume one feels like.)  Weird looks were received as people glanced in my car and saw us looking through little baggies of necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings.  Whatever, Council Bluffs.  Like it's the first time.

Anyway, here was the outfit I decided on today.  I stopped at my mom's after- every time I wear something other than jeans and a t-shirt, my mom asks, "Why are you dressed up today?"  I really just wanted to wear these Target wedges.  I'm in love.

Kelly took all of these pictures.  Even though it was just the two of us, it was still awkward.  I'm awkward.

My jeans, shirt, cardigan, belt, and necklace are all from Forever 21 (as is the majority of my wardrobe.)  The shoes are from Target.  The rings are vintage.  Can you tell I have an obsession with turquoise?

The brick wall- it's in our alley, so I don't have to venture far from the couch.  Perfect.

Back to sweatpants and Wheel of Fortune!

can we talk?

It's time to get serious, friends. I need to talk about something- an object that claims a large majority of my love; save for friends, family, and Dougie Fresh.

Look at that beauty. Just LOOK. You may find it weird that I'm obsessed with a couch, but we're not here to discuss the oddities in each of our lives, right?

I found this pretty thing at Warehouse Antiques in Nebraska City. I ventured there one day with my mom. She was picking up some new Harley Davidson riding boots and I tagged along for the antique stores in that small town. It was love at first sight. Its only flaw includes a cigarette burn. How could I pass it up? Oh yes, the cushions have vinyl on one side, fabric on the other. How functional! Do you know how many people have probably puked on this thing? <3 <3 I purchased it for $60 and I plan on keeping it forever... or until it falls apart.

As you may have gathered, I have a love that runs deeper than the Missouri River for mid-century modern furniture. I want to fill my house with couches and chairs and tables and light fixtures.

A great place to find incredible, and sometimes odd, furniture in Omaha is Back in the Day. One section of the basement is full of retro couches, lights, dining tables, and chairs like I have never seen before. Go there!

One place that I've been yearning to go is Mod Mood in a suburb of Denver. They have furniture I can only dream of owning one day. Look at these beauties:

I also stumbled across these gorgeous pieces today. SOMEONE BUY ALL THE THINGS FOR ME. Okay. Thank you.

Well, my narcolepsy is kicking in so it's time for a nap. I'll be dreaming about floral couches, teak wood hutches, and dinner.

sick as a dog.

I'm not quite sure where the term "sick as a dog" originated, but I use it way too often. (Mostly after watching Austin Powers 345 times and remembering that scene in which Dr. Evil gets dizzy on his rotating chair.  Enjoy the video below as a refresher.)

Anyway, I am sick.  The sickest I've been since... well, like last year.  I recall this exact situation in February or March of 2011.  My immune system has been on an extended vacation for the last 24 years.  I can't remember the last time I was healthy for more than a month at one time.  Luckily, I don't get this sick too often anymore.
I look like I'm 12.  This is me, with swollen eyes/nose.   I am glad that my illness couldn't make me look any whiter.  That ghost complexion is all me, baby.
I finally broke down and went to the doctor on Friday, after I had to leave work because I felt like I was dying.  The verdict?  A sinus infection and an eye infection.  I'm not sure how the eye infection slipped in there. She assured me it wasn't pink eye but she didn't actually know what it was otherwise.  I should trust her, right? She shook my hand for way too long.  I don't know if I should trust her...  I feel like my antibiotics are only just a tease and I'm not getting any better.  My cough is turning rather disgusting and I have filled two bags full of used tissues.  (I'm painting a really cute picture, aren't I?  Yes, I'm single.  Are you wondering why?)

drugs.
life-savers.  I feel like I'm 8 again, but my mom isn't taking care of me.
I haven't really left my bed in two full days/nights, aside from a lengthy trip to a WalMart in West Omaha just so I could get some fresh air yesterday.  I forgot to figure in the fact that fresh air = good, but WalMart customers make me hate life and consider a spree of stabbing deaths each time I enter the store.  I escaped hell with just one man (in a ripped Led Zepplin t-shirt) asking, "Who's going to eat those cookies with you?"  His 12 year old daughter was really embarrassed.

I spent yesterday catching up on Dawson's Creek.  You're probably wondering why Dawson's Creek and why in 2012, instead of 1998-2003.  You see... my mom wouldn't let me watch Dawson's Creek in its prime, so I used to catch random episodes when I could sneak over to my friend Shauna's house.  I was at Target a couple of weeks ago and the entire series was on sale for $45!  How could I pass that up?!
best. deal. ever.
I thought she wanted to snuggle because she knew I was sick... She only wanted food.
I'm hoping my antibiotics kick in today.  I'm going to open a celebratory beer as soon as I wake up without a runny nose & my throat not feeling as if I joined the circus and tried knife swallowing.

Anyway... during my time spent at home/in my death bed, I made a few things.  Here they are:

I didn't make this, but isn't she adorable?
 fabric button earrings:

$4 per pair

birds nest necklaces:

$10 each for the three on top, $8 each for the four on bottom

I haven't set up an Etsy because I don't have the energy to deal with orders & shipping quite yet.  If you are around the Omaha/Council Bluffs area and want to claim a necklace or pair of earrings, feel free to let me know! (on the blog, Facebook, or email: ky.henders @ gmail.com )  [on the earrings: the bottom two pairs and the second pair down on the left have been claimed already.  I'll be making more soon!]

I'm back to the suspense of Dawson's Creek, Season 2.  Joey and Dawson just broke up and things are really heating up between Pacey and Andie.  Oooh, baby!  Sunday Funday!
